As believers who own businesses we tend to operate like the world, using worldly business principles. However, we retain biblical principles for application in our personal lives, if that. Yet, when I read this verse, I am not able to find a limitation on the application of it in our lives. Can you? Let’s take a look.
Matthew 6:33 TLV
But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
In Hebrew this scripture reads – “Above all, pray for the Kingdom Realm of God.”
It is so easy when you are a believer-business owner to rely upon your formal education, supplemental training, courses, experience, talents, skills and ability. You jump right into business with an initial seeking of God’s face about the name, maybe even the structure. Or maybe, you didn’t seek His face before starting the business, but afterwards for Him to bless it? Or maybe, you made a vow about your giving if He blesses your business? Honestly, how many of us honor the words in this verse? Why is this biblical principle not immediately applied? Is it because you are a believer business owner or business owner who is a believer but have not dedicated your business to God? Now let’s add another scripture to support to see if there are any limitations on its application.
Proverbs 3:5-10 TPT
5. Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and He will lead you in every decision you make. 6. Become intimate with Him in whatever you do, and He will lead you wherever you go, (Or He will cut a straight path before you).7. Don’t think for a moment that you know it all (We should always be willing to listen to correction and instruction), for wisdom comes when you adore Him with undivided devotion and avoid everything that’s wrong. 8. Then you will find the healing refreshment your body and spirit long for (healing to your navel and moistening to your bones). 9. Glorify God with all your wealth, honoring Him with your first-fruits, with every increase that comes to you. 10. Then every dimension of your life will overflow with blessings from an uncontainable source of inner joy!
Not too many, maybe a few…believers will apply theses two verses on a personal level but do not apply them in business. In the morning when you seek His face is it for direction in business or to ask for Him to bless this deal or that deal? Are you praying for or about the employee you’ve hired and things are not working out? You know there is a difference between praying for or about a situation or person? Did you even ask Him, if you should hire the person or a different one? Did you seek His face if that deal is for you or is it a trick of the enemy? Did you hold a board meeting with Him about the direction the company should take next year, next quarter or next month? Did you seek His face for what to do for your business today? Did you seek His face before preparing for the presentation? Did you seek His face to know whether or not they should be your client? Maybe you are stuck, and unable to grow past a certain point. Or, can’t earn past a certain dollar amount. Did you seek His face, turn down your plate for direction? While you were waiting for the answer, did you worship?
I pose these questions because many believers in business pray about a situation that is going awry but not before entering into the deal or/transaction. Take a moment to pause and ask yourself have you truly invited Yahveh Yireh (God/ Our Provider) to be part of your business? Or is He only invited in when you need something? How do your respond to people who only call you when they need something?
If this is you, stop, repent, forgive yourself and ask Yahveh Yireh for a meeting concerning your business. He is waiting on you to seek His kingdom, His righteousness, to trust in Him completely, no longer relying on your knowledge and opinions.
Will you hold a meeting with Him today?
